In the latest episode of People at the Heart, members of the RiskSTOP Group Neurodiversity Support Group open up about what life is really like for people who think and experience the world differently.
Hosted by Natalie Joyce, Head of Social Responsibility and Sustainability at RiskSTOP Group, the episode brings together a range of stories from colleagues who share how neurodiversity shapes their working and personal lives. They describe the small adjustments that help them succeed, the importance of open conversations with managers, and the value of feeling accepted for who they are.
The group talks about the challenges of everyday life, from the exhaustion of masking to the relief that comes with being understood. They also explore how access to diagnosis can vary, especially for women and people from lower-income backgrounds, and why awareness and openness are so important.
At RiskSTOP Group, conversations like these are helping to shape a workplace where everyone feels valued for who they are. The Neurodiversity Support Group offers a safe space for colleagues to share experiences and find support, whether through flexible working, sensory-friendly spaces or simply understanding each other a little better.
This episode follows earlier conversations around neurodiversity, including the story of how the support group began. That journey was inspired by the lived experience of colleague Abbie Davis, whose leadership in this area was recognised with a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Spotlight Award.
