Helping students stay safe online - Safer Internet Day 2025

Every day, 300,000 Facebook accounts are hacked, and countless people fall victim to scams disguised as too-good-to-be-true offers. With young people spending more time online than ever, knowing how to spot scams and protect personal information is crucial.

Ahead of Safer Internet Day 2025, a team from RiskSTOP Group visited Portfield School, part of Autism Unlimited, to help 6th-form students develop essential digital safety skills. The interactive session, held on February 6th, explored this year’s theme: “Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online.

Navigating the online world safely

The session covered key topics such as online scams, fake news, and the dangers of oversharing personal information. Students were encouraged to think about the risks of digital fraud and take steps to secure their personal data.

Martin Lake, Head of Technology and AI at RiskSTOP Group, said, "It was a pleasure to visit Portfield School and discuss such an important topic with the students. They were engaged, asked fantastic questions, and showed a real awareness of the digital challenges they face. It was great seeing their enthusiasm for learning how to protect themselves and others."

Our ongoing commitment to Autism Unlimited

This initiative is part of RiskSTOP Group’s ongoing partnership with Autism Unlimited, reinforcing our commitment to supporting the charity, its beneficiaries, and the students at Portfield School.

We are dedicated to continuing our engagement with the school and finding meaningful ways to support its students, ensuring they have access to opportunities that empower and equip them for the future.

Natalie Joyce, Head of Sustainability at RiskSTOP Group, said, "Being part of this partnership and spending time at Portfield School is something I’m incredibly proud of. The students were engaged, thoughtful, and eager to learn, which made the session really rewarding. Our relationship with Autism Unlimited goes beyond a single initiative – it’s about long-term support, collaboration, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of these young people. We look forward to continuing this journey together."
