Workplace discipline and grievance are serious matters, but this doesn’t mean they have to send you to sleep, as our team discovered recently. Quite the opposite in fact!

Difficulties can arise in employment relationships and as such it is vital for robust discipline and grievances procedures to be in place and for everyone within the organisation to understand them and make sure they’re followed. After all, that’s good risk management, and that’s what we’re all about.
However, RiskSTOP Group is also all about putting people at the heart of everything we do, and we recognise that training our team around topics that may seem ‘a little dry’ shall we say, can be a bit challenging at times. Which is why we brought in Simon Robinson and David Sillitoe, employment law experts from Robinson Ralph to help with some learning and development.
Natalie Joyce, RiskSTOP Group HR Manager, explained: “Simon and David not only know their stuff, but they’re also incredibly gifted at keeping an audience engaged. I never would have imagined the topics they covered as part of our recent training session could have been so much fun.”
The one-day training course delivered a mix of theory and interactive scenarios, from having difficult conversations and managing investigations to conducting a grievance and chairing a fair appeal hearing.

“It’s hardly the lightest of subjects to discuss for a whole day, but they had everyone’s focus from the moment they started. The laughter kicked-in immediately and never stopped, but at the same time I feel I’ve learnt so much.”
