Moving Together: Supporting Parkinson's Dance Classes

Updated: Feb 12

RiskSTOP Group is partnering with Dorchester Arts this year, with a plan to contribute £5,000 towards 36 weeks of Parkinson’s Dance classes.

Parkinson's disease deeply impacts individuals and their loved ones, presenting challenges that extend beyond physical symptoms to touch every aspect of life. Dance, with its unique combination of movement, music, and social interaction, has become a vital outlet for many. It offers therapeutic benefits that can significantly ease symptoms, enhance mobility, and foster a sense of belonging and joy.

The Parkinson’s Dance classes, run by Dorchester Arts, are designed to be both accessible and enjoyable for those with Parkinson’s. These sessions, led by specially trained instructors, provide a comfortable and safe environment. At RiskSTOP, we’re happy to support an inclusive initiative, inviting participants to try the first session for free, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to experience the positive impact firsthand.

Dorchester Arts plays a pivotal role in our community, not just in the realm of artistic expression but as a vital contributor to health and well-being. This £5,000 donation is a testament to our belief in the power of partnership and community support. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those living with Parkinson’s, offering not just hope but tangible improvements in their daily lives.

Natalie Joyce, HR & Social Responsibility Associate Director at RiskSTOP Group, said “It’s clear to us at RiskSTOP Group that the ripple effect this project provides to those living with Parkinson's, as well as their carers and family members, is significant. I’m delighted we’ve been given the opportunity to support these dance classes locally. I’m also looking forward to getting along to some of the classes myself to see the difference they can make.”

Mark Tattersall, artistic director of Dorchester Arts, said: “This year Dorchester Arts celebrates 40 years of bringing the arts to the county town.  We are delighted to be able to mark this anniversary by welcoming a new corporate supporter and are grateful to the RiskSTOP Group for its far-sighted support of our health and wellbeing programme, which uses the arts and creativity to benefit so many people across Dorset.”
